A few words about THE CORE PROGRAMS Education Programme The goal of the program is to eliminate gender disparities in primary and secondary education and eventually to achieve gender equality in education. The program therefore aims at empowering women and girls and to provide them with the ability and knowledge needed to direct their own lives. ECODS has lead campaigns targeting communities to give equal opportunities for girls education and build their capacities to advocate and lobby for girl child education in order to increase; years of schooling for girls, girls self-awareness, decision making and problem solving skills, the girl-friendliness of school environments, family, peer and community awareness and support of girls education, and lastly collaboration with government to support policies and programs to promote girls education. Water, Sanitation and Hygiene ECODS is working with Kisumu County communities to increase access to safe drinking water in schools and villages, a total of 20,000 households now have access to safe drinking water. The water projects range from rainwater roof catchments, shallows wells and boreholes. The organization has been involved in water treatments, protection of water sources and water conservation activities. Operational Research, Evaluations and baseline surveys ECODS undertakes operational research, institutional capacity building, evaluations, monitoring, and baseline surveys/social assessment services using participatory approaches to other NGOs, government agencies and private companies for sustainability purposes. Environment and Health Programme The organization supports communities in prevention, control, treatment and care of communicable diseases (HIV/AIDS, malaria, TB and COVID 19) and provides education and training to combat diseases that are transmitted through poor environmental sanitation, and particularly keen on raising awareness on the adverse effects of global climate change. The talented and gifted programme The organization undertakes talent identification initiatives to provide these individuals with the opportunity to join a training environment where they can go on and develop. By knowing the talent or giftedness of students early and challenging them in their areas of strength, has boosted abilities that may not have been realized in traditional academic settings. Climate Smart Agriculture Programme ECODS has supported communities to ensure food security in the face of climate change. The programme aims to tackle three main objectives: sustainably increasing agricultural productivity and farmers’ income, adapting and building resilience to climate change, and reducing and or removing greenhouse gas emissions in line with national development priorities.
